It's kinda cool to see a radio with an all-wood shell, and, as a plastic-hater, I have secretly longed for a woody like this for years. It is a simple, warm-looking radio made with pretty woods, the craftsmanship is simple but tight, and evidently a lot of style mavens like it -- it has showed up in about 30 design magazines around the world. The standard socially-responsible back story lend it some marketing tailwinds: boy-makes-good designer from third world village creates employment for impoverished locals building a green-looking product. I'm not much of an audio dilettante, but functionally the reception and sound seem fine to me. Operationally, the flaws, which are annoying on a daily level, both relate to the knob design: the on/off/volume switch needs about two full turns to get up to audible (annoying!!), the knob turn is too resistant, giving it a bad feel, and that same knob is so close to the tuning knob that my fingers often disrupt the station tuning as i am laboriously cranking the volume on and off (annoying!!). So this radio is a bit like dating a supermodel: it is pretty to look at, but at what cost? I find myself usually picking it up just to reach the knob at a good angle, and if the thing weren't all glued together i would hack it to add a toggle switch. Steve Jobs would have sent this designer, crying, back for another try! Two more notes -- I just turn the same station on and off every day, but before you buy, make sure you notice that it is only battery operated, and there is absolutely no tuning display on this radio, you got to know your stations by heart or deal with it elsehows. That's ok with me, but make sure you know what you are in for.
