Bendix King 066-01207-0004 AV8OR Handheld System with GoFly Atlantic and GoDrive Southern Africa Review

Bendix King 066-01207-0004 AV8OR Handheld System with GoFly Atlantic and GoDrive Southern Africa
Average Reviews:

Got mine Feb 2011. It had an old database and Bendix King gave me a free update - no hassles. I tried two other units Quadra and iFly. AV8OR hand held was the best choice - least problems and most intuitive. Features important to me: Brighter screen, NMEA serial output for driving autopilots, terrain Vertical Profile View, faster satellite acquisition, easy to add standard WxWorx receiver.
I never use a GPS yoke mount. I mounted it on the panel for better and steadier touch control. Or you can use the suction cup mount to attach to aircraft windscreen. But I think that a cheap Nuvi suction mount is better geometry. With little RTV silicon adhesive its easy to attach the Nuvi bracket to the AV8OR holding bracket - just cut the Nuvi bracket excess off.
I find the car navigation feature irrelevant on all those aviation handhelds. Why take a $600+ unit that could be stolen when a $99 car GPSs are much better at it - and navigation is frequently built into newer cars.

mObridge (ABT2010-MBZ-F) Mercedes Nav Fiber Optic iPod + Bluetooth Kit Review

mObridge (ABT2010-MBZ-F) Mercedes Nav Fiber Optic iPod + Bluetooth Kit
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
A really great product. Don't know how I lived without these capabilities. Purchased this for my Mercedes-Benz SLK350 with COMAND head unit and DVD-based Navigation (NTG1). Among other things, this means my car has an LCD display screen for maps, music information, etc. The car had no pre-install for hands free phone and no microphones installed in the overhead console for driver hands free. It had no CD changer, either. FYI, the mBrace mic for roadside assistance is a completely different set of wires and components. The kit includes all the missing pieces you need: mic and long connectors for power and fiber optics. I found instructions online for how to quickly remove the panels in order to gain access to the fiber optic and power sources. The kit includes a wire to connect to cars with a valet mode, something the SLK lacks so I can't speak to that, not required for operation of the kit. The other connections were to attach the supplied iPod dock cable and the supplied microphone. The installation was extremely simple, well documented, and the only configuration besides simple Bluetooth pairing was to select my phone from a list because it happens to be an older Samsung phone with Bluetooth quirks; the setting handles about half a dozen other quirky phones. The first time I powered it up to test with the kit lying on the floor it just worked out of the box and worked flawlessly. So much fun I played with it until the car warned me the battery was getting low before resuming the installation. The biggest amount of time was deciding where to locate the mic because I'm picky about audio quality and wanted the wires completely out of site. The mic cable is quite long so you can pretty much locate it anywhere you want. After much experimentation I found the best location was directly above the steering column. The Parrot dual directional mic is VERY directional. Audio was completely unusable when attached at/inside the built-in mic housings of the overhead console (too bad - would have been a factory perfect result!) and barely usable on the driver's visor (thought that would be the ideal place, but no). With that solved, the install was all set. After using it for a week I'm blown away by how many phone capabilities the Mercedes COMAND has and how mObridge takes full advantage of them. The obvious stuff is phone book sync, and name/number display of callers and SMS txt'ers on the head and/or cluster displays, but that's the tip of the iceberg. I'm still noticing cool touches like it shows a count of missed calls along the bottom of the display. The iPod cable just barely reached the center console but made it; would be nicer if it were a foot longer. They seem to think you'll put it in the glove box but the console is the way to go. The interface to configure and navigate is very clunky since its menus mimic being tracks on a CD changer (a clever kludge), but you only configure it once. iPod integration is also as CD Changer emulation but that makes more sense and is organized as if you had a CD for each of Artists/Albums/etc. Navigating by songs is crazy-impossible but Playlists are THE way to go and work great. It's an expensive product but worth it. I don't think I'll ever be able to like a car without all the features this product enables. And being completely hands free with the music muting as the call comes over the sound system makes me a safer, legal driver, too. This should be standard equipment on every car.

Denon S302 DVD Home Theater System Review

Denon S302 DVD Home Theater System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Listed below are my thoughts on the S-302 after a week of use.
Styling
The styling is fair. This is very subjective, but the cabinet does not really look like it should cost $1700. I very much like the compact size. The controls look fine and feel solid.
Sound
I am not an audiophile, so take this with a grain of salt. I believe the quality of the sound is very good when playing music. The bass was not too deep and the highs were very clear. There was a good separation of instruments on some the jazz recordings. I tested this with various types of music using sources from CD, FM, and MP3 (VBR 165-175 kbps).
DVD
This is a 2.1 system and to me that is what it sounds like. Watching several movies, I never had the illusion of 5.1. The sound is fine, the sub-woofer did a bit too much shaking of the apartment for my tastes, but this is easily adjustable with a dedicated button on the remote. Occasionally the voices did not seem to come from the correct place on the screen. This could be due to the location of the speakers as they are at the bottom of the screen since the stands are not yet available.
The picture from the DVD is very good. I have the S-302 connected via HDMI connection to my 42" plasma, which is 1080i. The picture is extremely sharp. No noticeable jagged lines.
The memory function of the DVD does not work very well. If you stop the DVD and turn off the unit, it will remember the location when you turn it back on. If you switch to another source (e.g., tuner) and return to the DVD, it starts at the beginning of the movie. Not the menus or the FBI warnings, so it appears that it recognizes that this DVD has not been newly inserted.Internet/USB
This unit is equipped with WiFi (802.11b/g) and ethernet network capabilities. I was not able to get the wireless to work. My WPA key contains spaces and I could not figure out how to enter a space in the key. I removed the spaces from my key. I then turned off security. All of these options failed to connect. I then connected the device using a power line ethernet adapter and was able to connect. This connection is not reliable and I cannot tell if it is the adapter or the S-302. Occasionally, when starting the unit, it will try to connect using the wireless. This should occur only when the direct ethernet connection is not present.
The interface for the internet radio is easy to use. The stations are categorized by genre and country of origin. Although you can get to a station with this interface, a search feature would greatly facilitate getting to a known station. The interface for the USB is not so friendly. It is just a directory listing of the USB drive. It would be easier to navigate if it used the ID3 information to group by artist, album, genre, etc.
Tuner
While the quality of the sound from the tuner is very good, tuning of stations is very frustrating. There are three modes. FM Auto, FM Mono, and AM. When in FM Auto, the unit will not let you enter a weak station. Direct input of the station results in no sound whatsoever. Switching to FM Mono, the station can be entered and listened to. Entering a preset for this will remember which mode it is in, so this is necessary only once. Also, in the FM Auto mode, if a station starts to fade, it just goes out. It is either tuned or not tuned, so it can just keep cutting out. I would rather have static, but to do that I would have to use the FM Mono for all of my stations.

New COBRA CPI 2575 5000-WATT, 12-VOLT DC TO 120-VOLT AC POWER INVERTER Review

New COBRA CPI 2575 5000-WATT, 12-VOLT DC TO 120-VOLT AC POWER INVERTER
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
As I review this the title for this is COBRA CPI 2575 5000-WATT, 12-VOLT DC TO 120-VOLT AC POWER INVERTER and under the technical details it is also COBRA CPI 2575 5000-WATT, 12-VOLT DC TO 120-VOLT AC POWER INVERTER. THIS IS VERY DECEPTIVE. It gives you no hint that it is actually the 2500 watt, except the part that names the model "COBRA CPI 2575", but this is exactly what it is. It is 2500 continuous and theoretically 5000 peak. Sneaky dirty bums.

Cisco Syst. Aironet 1200 Series Access Point ( AIR-AP1230A-A-K9 )
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Cisco Aironet 1200(AIR-AP1230A-A-K9) is a overall quiet a brilliant product only till the time its working. The one I bought stopped working just after 20 days of purchasing it. Thanks to the Cisco's support got it replaced within a week. Later I found, that there was a manufacturing fault in the whole Aironet1200 series (initial batch).
Aironet 1200 Series supports many clients in mixed frequency and different throughput environments for e.g.Tri-mode 802.11a/b/g coverage, 802.11a, 802.11g, 802.11b/g, etc.
Installation is pretty simple and less time consuming. However, implementing WLAN security will take lots of your time. When I installed Aironet 1200, I was not too sure about the WLAN security and the threats that I will be facing, so I contacted Cisco for the proper procedures and best practices for the configuration of the WLAN. After taking their help, I was much satisfied with the product and the support that came along with it.

I actually love my printer. BUT- when I upgraded to windows 7 - No was driver available. Not till June. So, although my business has invested over $1000 in toner over the years, plus cost of the printer- they feel no need to support me. It is unrealistic to ask a person to stop all printing at their business for 6 months. Are they trying to force me to throw out my printer and toner and buy a new one?
I am losing time and money, because I chose their product.
I've been very loyal to them, but they have no loyalty to me.
Beware!

Linear RE-1SS Residential Telephone Entry System 100 Entry Codes Capacity - Stainless Steel Finish Review

Linear RE-1SS Residential Telephone Entry System 100 Entry Codes Capacity - Stainless Steel Finish
Average Reviews:

Well, I have gone through 2 of these made in china units and both times the intercom would not function. I do not have a home phone line and I use the unit in intercom mode which means the unit generates the dial tone. Well whatever chinese transistor they use for intercom mode works for about a year and then dies. Technical support is a joke and they offer no repair or return service. They tell you to call a linear dealer and have them return it to linear which means I pay $140 for some clown to come out and take 2 screws out to remove the unit.
Very disapointed with Linear. They push you to Linear dealers only and makes this unit very un-economical...

Olive O3HD 500GB Music Server (Silver) Review

Olive O3HD 500GB Music Server (Silver)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have the 2TB version and it basically does what is advertised - some of it better than others. Olive did a passable job of ripping 100 CD's (about 70 were done right) as part of the purchase. The metadata onboarding by Olive was ok, I had to fix most of it by hand. Olive provides a browser-based application called maestro to "help" with this process - pretty badly written application, needs to be restarted every now and then. Think of something about 10 times harder to use than itunes. Once you've onboarded your music with CD quality, the backup to an external 2TB drive was pretty painless (takes overnight) - as long as you have a FAT32 formatted 2TB drive (not so easy to purchase any more). Pretty silent in operation, the D/A converter seems to be of high quality. The most irritating aspect of this device is the touch-screen control display - Olive basically seems to think that you shouldn't use the display, but rather an iphone app. Well - why not get the onboard touch screen to work as well as the one on the iphone?? My fingers aren't particularly fat, yet choosing a menu item requires incredible patience and precision - or you end up selecting an option you never wanted. The menu and font designs, the screen sensitivity - pretty bad. This seems like partly a hardware issue, because after several software upgrades this "feature" shows no sign of improving. There's definitely a market for the functionality provided by the Olive server; thus the product specification is about right. Unfortunately, the Olive implementation leaves much to be desired.

Elite Screens VMAX2 Electric projection Screen, 1:1 Aspect Ratio-113in (Max White) Review

Elite Screens VMAX2 Electric projection Screen, 1:1 Aspect Ratio-113in (Max White)
Average Reviews:

Again: The screen may be fine, but the dimension is NOT 79 inches! Try 92. Would not fit designated spot. Arrived, long box scared me and rightly so. The listed length of product (the 113 is the diagonal, and I should have done the math, but trusted the Amazon product description--of course when it says 79 by 79 by 4 it likely means 92 by 4 by 4. The extra 12 inches meant it was impossible to install and had to be returned. Bad business for the normally wonderfully astute Amazon, as they pay shipping both ways. Still, but I tried.

Intel Pocket Concert 128MB Digital Audio Player Review

Intel Pocket Concert 128MB Digital Audio Player
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am comparing my experiences to my use of the Rio 500 mp3 player, which I recently replaced with the Intel Pocket Concert due to storage constraints.
1) Look/handling: I'm not one for flashy looking things, but the Intel unit is a good size and easy to handle. The belt clip is handy (Rio did not have one) but I do miss having a case for it, which I understand I have to purchase separately from Intel.
2) Plug and Play Ability: The set-up and installation of the unit was flawless. I was listening to the unit as soon as I pulled it out of the box (it comes pre-installed with a few mp3s and a walking tour of the unit). The Intel file transfer software is several thousand times easier to use than Rio's. My one complaint is that you cannot reorder the songs once they are on the unit. I haven't used MusicMatch Jukebox, which came packaged with the player, to upload files to the unit, but for now the Intel software is more than adequate.
3) Sound quality and usage: The volume on the Pocket Concert is incredible. I had problems with the Rio in that I couldn't get it loud enough to hear well over a train or city traffic noise, which is a problem, since I use it to commute to work. The Bass/Treble controls are adequate, although I miss having pre-sets, which the Rio had. The bookmark, random and repeat features are fine. The volume control is at the top of the unit, and separate from the scroll wheel which controls settings; I appreciate having it set up this way. It is much more functional than combining them all on the side of the unit, which Rio did.
4) Storage: I am getting 23-30 songs on the 128 meg internal storage. This is pretty much what I expected, since I was getting 9-13 on the Rio with mp3s encoded at the same rate (128 or 160). This is more than adequate for my commuting and exercising needs.
5) FM Tuner: I'm not getting tremendous reception on the Pocket Concert, even in and around downtown Boston where the signal is the strongest on any other walkman type unit. But I didn't buy this for the radio!
6) Battery life: This is the one downfall to this unit. It is eating batteries like crazy. I think that if the scrolling info on the face of the unit could be controlled, it would cut down on the battery drain. The Rio upgraded its firmware to be able to cut down on scrolling and the amount of data shown, and even on the amount of time the backlight was lit, and I found I could extend battery life quite a bit if I cut down these settings. I think this is definitely one area Intel needs to look at. I get on average about 6-7 hours on a battery, whereas on the Rio, it was over 10 and close to 12 or 13 hours on a regular basis.
7) That annoying hiss: Yes, I do notice it, but only between tracks and in a quiet room. If you're using this to work out, jog or commute (which I do) then you'll never know it's there. I would assume that it's fixable with a firmware upgrade, since several people on the internet have complained about and returned the product without a noticeable improvement.
I look forward to firmware upgrades which I would assume are coming. As an Intel shareholder, I'm proud of this product, and haven't gone anywhere without it for the last 10 days!

New Dakota Alert MAPS MURS Alert Probe Sensor Long Range Wireless Driveway Alarm High Quality Review

New Dakota Alert MAPS MURS Alert Probe Sensor Long Range Wireless Driveway Alarm High Quality
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The probe sensor consists of three parts: a heavy, solid magnetic sensor, coaxial cable, and circuit box. I buried the probe parallel to the driveway, about one foot from the edge. The cable was buried about two inches under ground through the woods to the circuit box, hung on a tree (screws not included). Six AA batteries, inside the circuit box, power the transmitter. Selecting the channel and sub-channel was easy. Using the HT walkie-talkie, I tested the sensor by first walking close by it (no alarm), and then driving near the other edge of the driveway at a medium and fast speed. Both times, the alarm was sounded (a voice saying "Alert Zone 1, Alert Zone 1") I believe that it is reliable. I have one concern. The coaxial cable is not secured in the box with a knot, to prevent accidentally ripping it out if it is tugged or tripped over (perhaps by an animal or the homeowner). In that event, damage could be considerable as the cable is wired directly to a circuit board.

The Niles IC-2 remote can only be sold and programmed by an Authorized Trained Installer/Programmer. It requires dedicated hardware and software to be programmed to operate your AV system or Theater. If it is programmed correctly, it will make even the most complex system a breeze to operate. It is one of the best and most affordable "intelligent" remote control systems on the market. Please note: NOBODY IS AUTHORIZED BY THE MANUFACTURER TO SELL THE IC2 REMOTE ON THE INTERNET or OVER THE COUNTER! (NOBODY!!!!!) Even Niles Authorized Dealers can't "sell" a IC2 system. They can only be purchased through a IC2 Installer with the tools and training to program it. If you purchase this product from a internet reseller you will have no warranty, no manufacturer support and you will have no way to program it because the software and hardware required to program it is only sold to trained, qualified IC2 installers that have been approved and trained by Niles Audio Corp. Don't be fooled by the ridiculous low price you see in the UNAUTHORIZED internet adds for the IC2 either. If you are interested in a IC2 Remote, New Niles Audio Corporation Ic2 Home Theater Remote Control Connectivity Technology Wireless contact Niles Audio to find out who your nearest authorized installer is and have it professionally installed and programmed. NEW PRO EARS PRO TAC MAG GOLD NRR 33 BLK Review

NEW PRO EARS PRO TAC MAG GOLD NRR 33 BLK
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If you don't mind the size and price, this is excellent hearing protection without losing situational awareness irrespective of where you shoot. This is a large, full-sized, bulky, solidly built, made-in-the-USA hearing protection with a 5-year warranty that works very well and is comfortable. It provides the maximum attenuation (33 dB NRR) for muffs of this type.
Pros:
1.Very quick response (fast "attack time") to high-pressure (>80 dB) sounds so you can still hear what's occurring around you (from yahoos at the range making "unsafe comments" to range commands from Range Safety Officers) between gun fire sounds.
2.Takes CR123 batteries instead of obscure "medical" batteries. Their earlier models required odd medical batteries. The ones I got use commonly available CR123 batteries. YOU MAY NEED TO SPECIFY AND ASK FOR THE MODEL THAT USES THE CR123 BATTERIES when ordering.
3.Very comfortable to wear for many hours.
Cons:
1.Lack of detail to construction. I see slight glue over-run at the junction between the leather and the muff.
2.Size is too large if you want to properly mount a rifle. You may consider the smaller version, but you would sacrifice a bit on hearing protection.
3.No detailed instructions that show the locations of the jumpers for the model I own. I may have the latest (4th generation) muffs, and I could not find detailed depiction of jumpers for my muffs. It really does not matter as the jumpers are very well labeled on the muffs, but when you pay so much money for hearing protection, I would expect attention to all details.
My hearing means the world to me and I also enjoy shooting my pistols a lot, so I sprung for the best. My frequent visits to an indoor 10-lane range allowed me to thoroughly test this electronic muff. Irrespective of caliber (.223 rifle, .22 cal, 9mm, .40 cal, 357 Magnum, .45 cal, etc.) the active sound attenuation works very well. I am also able to hear my surroundings, including the whirling of the air conditioning fan, someone dropping a bullet, or a spent casing landing on the ground. I have not tried plugging anything into the input plugs (such as to listen to scanner, music, etc.), but such feature may be helpful to someone who needs to hear his communications radio's audio discreetly at the range.
Operational hints:
I set the muff's gain to "high", but I did NOT turn up the ear muff's volume control because it hears TOO well! High gain setting simply meant that the microphones are twice as sensitive as the "low" setting (as per the manual for 3rd generation Pro Tac muffs). I also found that I received the maximum protection and benefit by making sure the ear muffs straps and cups are properly fitted onto my head and ears.
Would I purchase these ear muffs again? Yes. Would I recommend these to friends? Yes. What would I purchase next? Probably the Pro Ears Tac Slim Gold NRR 28 Ear Muffs with 2 Lithium 123a Batteries, solely for the ability to easily mount a rifle while wearing electronic ear protection.

Archos 2 Vision 8 GB Video MP3 Player (Red) Review

Archos 2 Vision 8 GB Video MP3 Player (Red)
Average Reviews:

I just bought this player recently and have had no bad experiences with it. The touchpad to switch songs is not AS sensitive as I might like but overall the player is great. It comes with the software to convert videos to a format it will pay. You can easily drag and drop files into folders. The sound is good. For the price, it is a great little player.
I think the player pictured by the seller is a more updated version than the one I actually received. The pictures added by customers look almost identical to what I have. There is no FM transmitter on this device. Though the product I have works perfectly fine, the vast difference between the product shown and what was received makes it begin to feel a little like false advertising rather than a good bargain.

We have this unit in our 2011 Toyota Camry and have had nothing but problems with it and the dealership doesn't know how to service it.
The clock on the unit never seems to be able to keep the current time. When we correct the time we indicate it should synch with satellites but that's a problem too.
When we enter an address to navigate to the system never indicates it's functioning. When we check the satellite status the unit will show several satellites are visible but it never seems to be able to acquire any... thus the unit never seems to work. Then after a day or so the clock on the unit will have an incorrect time that ranges from just a few hours of to over 12 hours off.

Ordered them in February 2011. Had them installed professionally. Used them a couple times for our 2 year old(I'm talking less than 1/2 an hour each time). They stopped working in April(screens won't turn on). I took my car into the Car stereo shop, they advised that power was getting to the units and it was a mechanical/performance issue. The remote control is a pain in the butt to work. Half of the buttons do not perform the function they are supposed to, and the other half don't seem to work! It seems like it is a combination of half a dozen working parts from various dvd players and put together into one....very poor quality. The manual may as well be in Chinese instead of the half a** translation they did via Google translate...
I've emailed and phoned this company(Elite Auto Sounds)and here's the correspondence that I got....
Elite Auto Sound initial email regarding a voicemail I left them:
"Thank you for contacting us about your items. We are sorry to hear that you are having an issue with the package that you purchased. If you describe in detail the issues we can pass the information on to our techs to try to solve for you. Our manufacture gives us a 30 day replacement period from the purchase date for all our items, this is the time we are able to return or exchange an item. This is the time period we pass on to our buyers and list as the available return time in our warranty/returns link on our homepage. After this period we are no longer able to get any credit for an item and therefore can not accept returns."
My response to their request(detailed account of problem so they can pass onto their "techs"):
"I'm not looking to return them and get my money back, I just want them fixed. I will pay to have them sent back and looked at by your manufacturer. Although we had both installed, we've only used one of the screens for not even an hours worth of DVD viewing.
The issue is that neither of them will turn on anymore. There appears to be a "blip" on the screen when I turn the car on(they're hooked into the main power source that makes them operate when the ignition is turned), but that's it, the screen stays black and neither POWER buttons work. I took our car to the Car Stereo store that installed them and they advised it was a mechanical issue. After checking the connections, they stated that the units themselves were getting power because the little red light in the infrared sensor was on - thus indicating there's power getting to them. Does that make sense to you? The installer asked if there was some kind of way to "reset" them as he thought most devices like these(car stereos, alarms, etc) have this ability.
I should hope that you guys can offer me some assistance and stand behind your product. I have a strange feeling that you will blame the installer, the installer will blame you guys, and I'll be the one left with nothing but a $600 hole in my wallet and 2 non functioning DVD headrests. Please help!"
Their response to my plea:
"As we stated before, Our manufacture gives us a 30 day replacement period from the purchase date for all our items, this is the time we are able to return or exchange an item. This is the time period we pass on to our buyers and* list as the available return time in our warranty/returns link on our homepage.* After this period we are no longer able to get any credit for an item and therefore can not accept returns."
My final email back to them - to which I have yet to get a response.....6 days later. I've also phoned them and left another voicemail:
"I would like to talk to someone about this. This is a terrible business practice to simply post a return policy and state there's nothing you can do. Please provide me with a phone # so I can talk to someone instead of email."
BUYER BEWARE.....I LEARNED THE HARD WAY......THEY'RE TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE!!!!
