First off I love the unit if all the features they claim it has works. I have yet to get the sd card, USB, or the picture features to work on this unit. Touch is stopes working after less then a month. Called audio saving and they said send it back and they will send me a new unit. So I'm sending it back today, so we will see how this goes. Coustemer service is great so far. Hoping that when I get my new unit it will work without any problems because I like all the features this unit has. I'll update when I recieve my new you in a few days.

JVC KDSHX750 CD Receiver Review

JVC KDSHX750 CD Receiver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
There's two incredible reasons to buy this thing- It puts out a true 50W RMS into all 4 channels, and it will do time alignment. It's a really unique head unit in that sense, and it's why I bought it. Besides that, it's 2005 tech. A nice color LCD, SD card MP3 support (only up to 2GB), and the basics.
But to get real time alignment and a really powerful amp in a head unit was downright awesome if you want a mid-range setup without a trunk full of equipment.
It would get 5 stars if the MP3 browsing didn't suck so hard. But it's worth it.

Clarion MAX675VD Double DIN DVD/CD/MP3/WMA Touch Screen LCD Receiver Review

Clarion MAX675VD Double DIN DVD/CD/MP3/WMA Touch Screen LCD Receiver
Average Reviews:

I bought this unit in October 2007 and it is still rocking. I have it inside my sport 4X4 truck and it's accompanied by 4 pioneer 6"X9" speakers (1 each door), 2 tweeters and a Kicker CVR 12" Subwoofer. I use only one amplifier which is a 4 channel Boss Acoustic Riot Amp that pushes 1600W!!!!! OH YEAH. I can keep a party with this set up. ALL features including video out works with my 5.5 Generation 80GB Video Ipod.
The stereo is amazing and it gives more value than I expected. The touch screen mimicks the ipod unit which makes "ease of use easier". I bought the IPOD Video cable separately and its just plug and play. The one draw back is that the IPOD 160GB (Sixth generation) does not provide video out on this Clarion stereo so if you have the 5.5 Gen IPOD it's better for you.

Kenwood Excelon KVT-696 DVD Receiver Review

Kenwood Excelon KVT-696 DVD Receiver
Average Reviews:

It's everything that's advertised. Connectivity is great (when the XM Radio isn't stuck "checking" forever). The main problem is the user interface looks like something from the '90's. You can't even see the entire names of songs because only 16 characters are displayed. It's jagged and ugly. For such a high-tech product (and market) I'm kinda shocked that the interface is so pathetic. Take a cue from the iPod (or maybe more realistically Android) and make it pretty and easy to use. The interface essentially hasn't changed at all in the last several years through several product revisions. I also used the KVT-512 and it was nearly identical. This is not good.

JVC KW-XR810 Review

JVC KW-XR810
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
With two USB ports, a 1/8" audio jack output, am/fm and bluetooth this car stereo rocks! The bluetooth works great with the supplied microphone, and operates my ipod perfectly. The "pro" EQ is a three band parametric EQ. Only issue is the lack of shelving EQ for the low and high bands. One can change the backlight color to match your vehicle. Pressing the volume knob mutes the stereo, a great feature sadly lacking on other car units. I am not using the on board amplifiers so I cannot vouch for the output. I can't seem to get my phone book to transfer to the unit, but I understand that it can and will, so maybe my Motorola Sidekick is incompatible. All in all A great car stereo for the money, and the bluetooth is the icing on the cake. Please note, the output volume of the bluetooth setting can cause a distorted sound to your callers if it is set too high. There are three settings. Initially I had the out-going volume set to 3, and was told my voice sounded a bit distorted, I set the volume to 2, and no more complaints. The volume through your speakers is easily adjusted using the volume knob! Simple, and quick.

Kenwood Kiv-Bt900 AM/FM/USB Receiver with Bluetooth(R) Review

Kenwood Kiv-Bt900 AM/FM/USB Receiver with Bluetooth(R)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It seems to me that some less that perfect early firmware has given this otherwise phenomenal HU a somewhat bad rap. Kenwood probably should have done more QA before release, but show me a software vendor that doesn't have the same problem. I've been running this guy for a week now and couldn't be happier, so I feel the need to do my part to increase its review standings! I had a lengthy list of mandatory criteria, and this was the _only_ HU on the market that satisfied all of them. Specifically:
- Rear mounted iPod an aux cables for clean installation. Contrary to what other reviewers have said, I think this is a huge win (especially vs. the Pioneer decks). Who wants a mess of spaghetti in front of their stereo? It took an extra hour to disassemble the center console and route the cables properly, but it was the "right way" to do it.
- Variable color display/buttons. This one really narrowed the field, and I'm surprised how many decks can't do this. I was replacing the factory stereo in a BMW, and for those who haven't been in one at night, _every_ lighted gauge, button, display, etc. is all the very same orangish-red color. A bright blue stereo would have looked hideous (*cough* Alpine).
- Integrated BT. As others have stated, this HU can't do streaming audio via BT, which is probably the only real con I'd cite. That said, my primary desire for BT was hands free, and it works great. Just in case Kenwood is reading though, I do think it would be super cool if they could pull the profile photos for my contacts and display them the same way they do album art from the iPod....
- Seamless iPod integration, including video. Check. Works great on both of my current and previous gen nanos. As another reviewer stated, you have to wait for the album art to skip to the next song, but there are several display modes available, some of which don't load the artwork and aren't affected if that's really a big deal to someone.
- Flexible, intuitive interface. The configuration options are very robust, and I found myself on several occasions thinking "geez, I wish I could do X", only to discover shortly thereafter that I could do X, Y and Z.
- Firmware updateable. With a deck this complex, this is mandatory in my opinion. No one is going to get it right on version 1.0, even with extensive in-house QA. I'm a software engineer by trade, and know from first hand experience how adept consumers at coaxing bugs out into the light. I used mine a few days before updating it and had some of the problems others have cited (mic drops, random source shifts, etc.), but absolutely no problems since updating it. It has the capability for a reason, so update the unit first thing!
- Good aesthetics and build quality. This is certainly subjective, but I'm appalled by how ugly some aftermarket decks are and how flimsy some of their control mechanisms are! Simple, clean lines and sturdy please.
- Good sound quality. I didn't do extensive comparison testing, but have been happy with previous Kenwood's I've owned this unit certainly outperforms the stock HU.
That's it! Love it!

IDA-X100M Alpine MARINE Multimedia Head-unit with USB and iPod Control Review

IDA-X100M Alpine MARINE Multimedia Head-unit with USB and iPod Control
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I received the IDA-X100m for installation into a 180 Bowrider (2000 Crownline). My boat came with a cassette deck (what they didn't have CDs in 2k??), so obviously it was going to have to go away.
I recently purchased a Pioneer MVH-P8200 for my RV about 2 weeks previous. That deck is also a AV receiver with Iphone integration and without a CD player. Since all of my media is digital, I had become used to having to burn CDs for use in the car which was both a waste of time and money but easy enough. That being said, this generation of decks which provides support for digital only is the future and is perfect for customers like me. So my Pioneer is a similar unit, large display with a single control wheel and advanced Ipod integration - no CD player wanted or included. (I have a iPhone 4). Nice deck, less expensive than the Alpine and a good fit for the type of usage it will get in the RV and advantage to the Pioneer for also having front mounted USB and aux inputs. Thats nice and the only advantage over the Alpine (other than being 100$ cheaper) however I do wish if I had it to do over again, I would rather have the Alpine instead:
So that out of the way, now looking at Marine models, I actually started my research slightly backwards because I knew I wanted a transom remote control, I considered how those looked and performed from Kenwood, Pioneer, Sony and Alpine, and the Alpine Remote Commanders are by far superior in terms of display, water proofing and functionality. That led me to the Alpine Marine Decks, and thus to the IDA-X100M. I was first struck by the ergonomics of the unit. One of the things I did not like about the Pioneer deck is that the control wheel isn't quite large enough which makes it tough to use to navigate. The Alpine knob is oversize, easy to grasp and the navigation makes sense. I have no problem operating it while driving the boat. Its easy to use and operate. The display is great and the illumination sharp. Connecting to my iPhone was simple and easy just as it should be, and I found the navigation of my music libraries was simple and intuitive. Unit came with everything I needed to install and since my boat only had 1 pair of speakers, I choose to use the internal amp for those and as expected was a huge improvement over its replacement and plenty of power. I have a external 1000w mono Fosgate Amp connected to a T1D12 sub woofer and the dedicated sub woofer RCAs (and control) made connecting it a breeze. Obviously there are also RCA outs for additional front/rear as well. Sound quality is typical Alpine - sounds great. FM radio seem sensitive, sounds good.
High WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor). Wife loves the look, found it easy to browse and find the music she wanted without having to read the instructions which is important. I have not yet hooked up the Marine Commander, but am anticipating from watching the demo videos that it will be awesome. I don't anticipate watching videos on the small screen, but appreciate having the option, as well as satellite radio, HD radio and the other add on components available. I like being able to use other USB storage including SD/MMC cards, however apparently unable to display the album artwork (why not?) is a downer. You only get that when connected to your ipod/iphone. Not a big deal to me, as I will always have my phone with me anyways, and I also appreciate that the ringer and email/text notification sounds come through the speakers so I don't miss calls when the music is pumping. I dont have the optional bluetooth. For me that is a must have in a car, but on the water, mic integration and ambient noise make it a non starter as well as my desire to have fun, not be on the phone in the water. I do however want to at least know I am getting a call/txt/email so if its important I can return the call.
Highly recommended for anyone wanting to go pure digital.

This isn't a bad stereo, but its replacements include Imprint/Audyssey, which make them so much better than this one that you would have to pay me more than 400k for me to put it in my car instead. It's just not worth it anymore. Hold out for a iDA-X305 or iDA-X303 instead. Imprint is a must!

Average Reviews:

This unit does work with blackberrys (I have been using it for calls all week with great results). I was worried about the unit because of other reviews, however I decided to bite the bullet and try it. I am glad I did, it works like a champ! When using a Blackberry, it will not store your phone book, or allow voice dialing, or transfer music, etc, however I knew that going in. I just needed a unit to allow high quality hands free operation and be xm ready. I have been very happy with it.
It took me about 2 hours to install it with xm radio adapter. I have a 2008 equinox and bought the harness and kit through Crutchfield.
So if you have a blackberry, don't get scared off of this one.

I have installed lots of stereo's this one is my favorite. The options are great, The sound very customizable and the connections give you every function you need from audio. Tiny gripes would be the folder\file tree structure on the usb flash drives playback and the lack of dimmer functionality but over all the bluetooth is great, the usb-ipod options are great, the audio input was great fro sirius, and the modern sleekness(with a touch of 80's Big Button)

I bought this stereo on presidents' day and was surprised at it's size it's HUGE ! and the sound earth shattering ! One reviewer states that there is no way to connect your non - ipod mp3 player to this system, that is not quite true, all you have to do is get a 3.5 mm x 2 RCA male cable ( y - connector ) and hook it up to the 'Phono' input jack in the rear, use the function button to select phono and wallah ! you are in business. ( make sure the cable says digital ) The only drawback to this hook - up is you can't control the mp3 functions through the stereo but it sounds great ! It is also important to use a good quality cable, if you use a cheap cable it will probably hum or hiss during playback. Hopefully this review will assist others who are thinking about this sony. The other surprise I got was the wide margin in price I shopped around got prices ranging from $353 - $680 simply amazing isn't it ? I paid a little more than I would've liked but I got mine from a store close to my home, so I guess I paid for the convenience.

Blaupunkt Chicago IVDM-7002 - DVD player with LCD monitor / AV receiver Review

Blaupunkt Chicago IVDM-7002 - DVD player with LCD monitor / AV receiver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased the Chicago to be the center piece for my car's multimedia system. In addition I installed a Kenwood four channel amp, an Alpine center channel amp/speaker and two headrest video monitors for the back seats. I also hooked up my XM satellite Skyfi2 unit through a FM modulator linked up through the radio antenna. I used the existing speakers and subwoofer that came with the car stereo unit.
The first problem I encountered was with the installation directions. They are very vague with no detail--just a chart showing the wires. As a fairly experienced amateur installer I figured out most of the wires but was unsure how to connect the parking brake wire. Turns out if you ground it, it allows full time video regardless of parking brake position (not safe but I was not sure of the alternative and Blaupunkt customer service was useless). Frankly too little information is a theme with Blaupunkt. They don't explain anything in the instructions including what the features are supposed to do.
Good Features:
**Great Video Screen
**Clean Sound
**Lots of inputs (3 extra video/audio inputs)
**Two video/audio outputs - great for 2 rear video monitors
**Can handle DV-X navigation system (I did not install this feature)
**Can handle rear view camera (not needed for my car but nice in a bigger vehicle)
**Good 7 band EQ feature - a great improvement over my old bass and treble control
Weak Features
**Bad Instructions - both install and user manual
**Cannot play movie (DVD) sound to rear speakers only - cannot seem to stop Dolby sound separation during DVD play so the whole car has to listen to the video - I guess I'll look into installing a wireless headphone system off of one of the extra sound outputs (my rear video monitors cannot handle sound which may have helped solve this problem).
**Terrible customer support from Blaupunkt USA
**Too much dependence upon the remote control - lose it and you cannot do much with your system
In terms of installation - this radio is much more difficult to install than a simple head unit. You have two parts (the head unit and the brain) and a whole lot of wires to figure out. If you use amps (i.e. the pre amp outputs like I did) you immediately cut out the need for ten wires coming out of the brain. In the end I only used three wires from the brain harness (power x 2 and the remote on wire for my amps).
Overall I am disappointed with the system in terms of movie playback. I am experiencing a lot of problems trying to get the system to do what I want in terms of controlling the sound. Blaupunkt did a terrible job with their instructions and their customer service is just as bad. The radio and CD playback are very good and my XM SkiFi2 has never sounded better. I got this unit for about half the cost of a similar unit from Kenwood or Alpine. For the price I guess I got a good deal. In terms of construction quality this unit is on par with those units (versus a lower quality Jenson unit that I would not expect to hold up over the long term - I also have my personal reservations about the Pioneer unit but it may be excellent).

This is a great double din touch screen radio. The Detachable face plate is Golden for avoiding broken windows and a stolen stereo. I bought the Stereo wire harness for my 2001 nissan Xterra and the JVC KS-U30 usb video Cable for ipod and iphone. I have an Iphone 4. I did NOT need an installation kit for my car in order for the radio to fit, it fit into the same slot as the factory radio. I installed everything my self and it all works perfectly. I've had the Stereo for over a month now and it still works great. The Motion X app DOES work on the radio display. For all of the people saying that JVC is falsely advertising the app to work on their radios, you are All Mistaken. If you can't get it to work, its because you don't know how to set the radio up, not because the radio is defective. You have to play with the display inputs in settings to get the thing to work. Its not rocket science, I'm sure they'll get it; that or they have bought an imitation or the wrong jvc cable. For me the JVC Cable is a MUST for this stereo to get the most out of it. Any way, the sound is immensely better than my factory radio, the equalizer is great. The dvd image and iphone videos image are awesome, and the sound like I said is amazing. If you play with the av in display inputs from settings, you can use other iphone apps like vevo and stream music videos to your display, make sure you have a good data plan. You can Control your music library form the stereo or from the ipod. You can also hear tune in radio over the car speakers as well. The local radio stations all pick up like they should. You can customize the background of the display using a regular usb pen drive with pictures, you have to load and open the picture first, then go to settings and display to capture the photo. also easy. To watch dvd videos on the go, easy as pie, Youtube it.... at your own risk and I don't recommend it, just in case... You can also stream music from your phone by bluetooh to the stereo flawlessly. The only down side is the bluetooth speaker that comes with the stereo, I have it mounted on the back of the steering wheel and people say they can hear me only some of the time. I have to get a new speaker and see if it works better. The stereo does download your contacts and recent and missed calls. nice touch. The Bluetooth adapter comes installed in the stereo body, so if you don't see it in the packaging, don't freak out. Front aux works as it should for any mp3 player or ipod if you don't have the jvc cables. The buttons on the front are well made and not flimsy, the changing colors are cool, or you can set one to be steady. RDS only works if its available in your area I believe, I don't get the song names but I do get the station names for the regular radio. I don't have SAT radio so I don't if RDS works for that, it should though. The Touch Screen works great for all the buttons on the screen, it's sensitive so you don't have to press hard, you can also turn up or down volume by making a circle in the center, or next or previous track by swiping from the center to the left or right. All in all I think it was a Great Buy, I don't Regret it at all, and I'd buy it again if I had to. I chose the 6.1 inch over the 7 inch model because I like having the volume and menu buttons in the front, and the aux input with the 7 in doesn't have. I hope this review helps in your decision to buy the radio. Good luck.

I got the kvt-512 along with the kna-510 installed in my 06 TSX. So far, all is good and no real complaint. The unit is loaded with features and options so what you can do with it is limitless. I have this unit connect through my factory head unit but the sound is still pretty good. The dvd is nice and clear and the navi works great. The touch screen is very responsive as well. I really like the fact that it plays mp3s off of a dvd. It is also convenient that it comes with a usb port to play mp3s off of. You can buy a ipod adaptor but why when you can get a cheap usb drive to play your music out of. I have it connected to a 8 gig thumb drive(bought for like $15) that I perminantly keep on there since it is plenty to hold all of my music.
You have to touch the screen on a unmarked location to activate the menu control options which is something I need to get used to. So far...I am definitely enjoying my new toy.
