Uniden BCT15X BearTracker Mobile Tracking Scanner with GPS Support (Black) Review

Uniden BCT15X BearTracker Mobile Tracking Scanner with GPS Support (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a very nice scanner with alot of features,up to 9000 channels stored in groups instead of banks, fire tone out, band scope etc. The biggest drawback is no printed manual. I agree with the other review, that this is very inconvienient.UNIDEN gives you a CD with instructions, which means your chained to your desk, or you have to lug a laptop around all the time.I use this scanner in my vehical, so it would have been nice to have a manual to keep in the glove box for quik reference. To find alot of the things you need to know requires going through many menus and sub-menus, and once you do find what your looking for, you had better remember where you found it, because there are so many menus it's easy to get lost. I wish UNIDEN would at least offer a manual that we could purchase for a few bucks, though after paying 220.00 for the scanner we shouldn't have to. Would have given 5 stars otherwise.

Sonos CR200 Wireless control of your Sonos Multi-Room Music System Review

Sonos CR200 Wireless control of your Sonos Multi-Room Music System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Been using my CR200 for about 3 weeks and it has been a joy.
Compared to the original CR100 (which itself seemed fabulous when first received) the CR200 is from a different planet. It's much smaller, lighter, and the screen is bigger and brighter. I am not sure I would pay to upgrade for those benefits alone however.
The real advance is in the search functionality. Gone is the ipod style scroll-wheel with the tedious onscreen keyboard and in is a full touch sensitive on screen keyboard. Once you get used to it (it takes a little practice) the difference is night and day. If you have a large music collection, or especially if you use Napster or Rhapsody, searching using the CR200 is a joyous experience. Not only is the input vastly quicker now that you can type, but the search itself is predictive such that when you type "depe", for example, Depeche Mode will already be on screen vying for your attention with DePedro. The combination of vastly faster typing combined with the improved search makes the search experience on the old CR100 feel like wading through cement in comparison.
Rhapsody plus the CR200 really is a wondrous thing, it really makes searching for music a joyful experience. I frequently have to stop myself squealing with delight.
So, if the CR200 vs. CR100 = a no brainer, how about vs. an iPod touch or iPhone? My experience using the Ipod application is limited to about 5 minutes. My reasons for preferring the CR200 were twofold: 1. I really value the speed of the search experience - having to wake up my iPod, load the app etc was a trifle unappealing. Furthermore, I have a big house with lots of sonos players in far flung corners (like the basement) and I really wanted my remote to work on the Sonos Mesh as opposed to wifi (which the iPod uses). These are perhaps not big reasons, and if you already have a suitable touch or iPhone it may well not be worth the upgrade. As irrational as it may be though, I just wanted a device built from the ground up for Sonos rather than an apple product I could dumb down to do (almost) as good a job.

Pioneer AVIC-Z130BT 7" In-Dash Navigation AV Receiver with iPod/iPhone Control, Bluetooth, Pandora Review

Pioneer AVIC-Z130BT 7 In-Dash Navigation AV Receiver with iPod/iPhone Control, Bluetooth, Pandora
Average Reviews:

This is the first In Dash double din GPS head unit that I have installed. My first impression is that it works well.
I got the optional Ipod cable (Pioneer CD-IU51V) and it connects to my phone (iPhone 3GS) right away every time. I know others have tried to connect with the provided cable and will see connection problems I have seen none with the extra cable.
Pandora and Aha Radio works great. This is my favorite feature. Thumbs up / down, skip songs from the head unit.
The GPS system seems fast and even finds my house which others in the past haven't. I have had several portable (stand alone) GPS units from Garmin and in my opinion Garmin is the best. This unit works well enough for what I need it to do though.
I installed the back-up camera (Pioneer ND-BC4) to this unit and it works very well. I was impressed with the image quality (see picture in image gallery).
The EQ settings are numerous and have allowed me to dial in an excellent sound quality even with the factory speakers.
The voice recognition seems to work OK. I have never found any that seem to work flawlessly OEM or aftermarket.
Ipod controls work well, Album art loads quickly and you can control in easily.
Built in HD tuner seems to work well.
Antenna booster works well.
CD/DVD playback works quickly. I have had no issues with the DVD playback or MP3 CD's I have used.
The Bluetooth connection seems fast and has worked every time for me. Incoming calls (auto mute) works well.
Phone contact transfer worked first try.
The supplied microphone works well and the cable length is great even for longer runs. I ran mine up the A-pillar to the mirror and still had about 3 extra feet of cable.
I'm not sure where the 2 star ratings are coming from but every aftermarket unit will have it pluses and minuses. I did a great deal of research before buying and I am very happy with my purchase.

Midland Regatta RG1W VHF Waterproof Two-Way Marine Radio (White) Review

Midland Regatta RG1W VHF Waterproof Two-Way Marine Radio (White)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a waterproof low cost vhf radio. It is easy to install. Comes with a loooooong wiring harness. The display lighting is golden so it is easy on your night vision. It is rather bright and can not be adjusted. If you plan on mounting your radio on the control panel, you may need to consider another radio.
With 2 watts of output, the audio is quite good.
The digital calling is a little cumbersome. There are no provisions for speed dialing an individual boat. You must enter a 9 digit number every time you call. (I just thought in my life I have gone from asking an operator to connect me with a person to speaking a name into my phone to get it to dial. I guess all those dialing methods in between were just a waste of time.)
This radio does have a weather alert feature that you can set to automatically alert you to weather warning.
Bottom line this is a cheap, tricked out radio that will serve most casual boaters well. Would make a great second radio.
The instruction manual is ok.It is specific for the RG1!
For me the one big downside is that every time you switch channels, it beep. This feature can not be turned off.
Midland seems to think it is a well built radio as they give a 3 year repair or replace warranty. (Keep your receipt.) They will repair your radio after the warranty is up for a flat rate of $[...]. Visit [...] for the full warranty.

Average Reviews:

Bought mine last 15 Nov 2005 after reading different reviews from cnet and various sources. I had to try if this measures up to what ive heared from the feedbacks. Wow! im so overwhelmed with satisfaction that this cd/mp3 player totally rocks ! If you want the best sound, buy a seperate headphone i recommend Sennheiser PX 200 white color cost $59, so private that even the person near you cannot hear what your listening, i crank up a Wild Swans Bringing Home The Ashes CD, so absolutely superb. Its like carrying your stereo system in your pocket. If you want high quality sound dont skimp on choosing a high quality headphone or earphone, you will know what im talking about. This is only if you prefer headphone for a better wide sound ambiance. Its true that you cannot navigate easily at the dark, no remote control on the earphones provided. You had to read the manual first to understand all its functions.
My conclusion : Very satisfied and worth it.

Combining a lightweight body, stylish good looks, and an impressive array of technical features, this Sony Psyc CD Walkman is a great fit for music fans of all stripes. The Walkman boasts an intriguing dimpled cover encircled by a translucent light blue ring, giving it a high-tech yet playful look that's quite unique among personal CD players. The flashy appearance extends to the pair of stereo headphones, which also offer light blue highlights. More significantly, the device is far more than just a straightforward CD player, as it's compatible with MP3, ATRAC3, and ATRAC3PLUS formats when burned onto a CD-R or CD-R disc, and it includes a built-in digital AM/FM tuner (a rarity among contemporary personal CD players). ATRAC3PLUS is a high-quality audio-compression technology that reduces the size of digital audio files while preserving much of a track's original sound quality (similar in concept to MP3 or Dolby Digital sound formats). With ATRAC3PLUS, music can be burned and compressed at 132, 105, 66, 64, or even 48 kbps (kilobits per second), letting users select the right balance between fidelity and storage space. The end result is a huge increase in CD-R/RW capacity, as each disc can hold as many as 490 ATRAC3PLUS songs when compressed to 48 kbps.
To assist listeners in managing the ATRAC3 and ATRAC3PLUS files, Sony has included a copy of its SonicStage software with each Psyc CD Walkman. The simple-to-use program helps you create your own music compilations on CD-R/RW media using your computer's CD burner. The software is also compatible with Sony's Connect Music store, which offers an extensive online music library with a huge catalog of songs available for quick and easy download. Once the songs are burned to a disc, listeners can glean track, album, and artist information from the Walkman's three-line LCD text display, which comes with multi-language support for greater versatility.
As with any good personal CD player, the Psyc CD Walkman offers anti-skip protection in the form of Sony's Skip-Free G-Protection technology, which helps the device quickly recover from both horizontal and vertical shocks to improve the listening experience. G-Protection is particularly valuable while jogging, skating, or pursuing other outdoor activities. The Walkman's impressive audio performance stems from such features as its Digital Mega Bass Sound, which produces rich, deep bass tones with extremely limited harmonic distortion; Sony's Parametric Equalizer II, which gives listeners extremely precise control over the tonal balance; and a two-position Automatic Volume Limiter System, which consistently maintains the volume output at levels below the distortion threshold so that the sound is always clean and precise.
Should listeners tire of pre-recorded music, they can turn to the digital tuner, which offers not only standard AM and FM stations, but the audio tracks of VHF TV channels 2 through 13 and seven weather stations. The tuner offers a great way to listen to your preferred public radio show, catch the local baseball broadcast, and jog to your favorite DJ's rhythms while running, skating, or working out at the gym. It's also easy to flip among the channels thanks to the 51 station presets, which include 30 FM, 10 AM, seven TV, and four weather band presets. Additional features include a five-direction control key, which gives you single-button control over five individual functions; 18 playback modes, including repeat, program, and random; and an automatic shutoff feature that powers the player down when it's not in use to conserve battery power. The Walkman runs for up to 41 hours on a single AA battery when playing ATRAC3 files or 30 hours when playing the radio and comes with a one-year parts warranty.
Sony's Connect Music store tailors its recommendations to reflect your mood and tastes. About Sony Connect Music Store and ATRAC3plus Sony's Connect Music store offers one of the most extensive music collections online. Customers can choose single tracks or entire albums from independent and major-label artists for purchase and download. Sony's proprietary ATRAC3plus is an advanced audio compression and Digital Rights Management (DRM) technology offering multiple bit rates that allows you to create music compilations tailored to your listening preference. Songs downloaded and burned onto CD-R/RW media using ATRAC3plus technology can be played on any device that supports ATRAC3plus.

If you're in business and need to keep in close contact with your workers and colleagues, the Motorola XV2600 business two-way radio may be exactly what you're looking for. With hands-free functionality, a lightweight but rugged design, an extended battery life, six channels, and enhanced range capability, the Motorola XV2600 is designed with the professional who cares about efficiency and safety in mind. Many work sites, including construction areas, grocery stores, hospitals, and warehouses, require workers to cover vast amounts of area in the course of the day. These sites also suffer from high ambient noises generated from poor acoustics, machinery, vehicle traffic, and other loud sources. Keeping in constant touch with your staff requires communication tools that are specifically designed for these environments. When communications break down, your organization becomes less efficient, and issues such as productivity, safety, and profitability suddenly become serious concerns.Operating on FCC frequencies reserved exclusively for business use, the Motorola XV2600 is a powerful two-way radio that can help you keep your business's operations on schedule, maximize productivity, enhance security, and increase overall customer satisfaction. (The Motorola XV2600 operates on VHF frequencies, making it ideal solution for working outdoors and in and around wood structures.)Thanks to a newly designed chip and optimized acoustic cabinet that provides clearer audio at higher volumes, the Motorola XV2600 offers a significant improvement of sound quality over earlier Motorola two-way radio models. The radio has also been designed not only to be weatherproof, shockproof, and drop-proof, but also to meet MilSpec810 and IP54 standards. In other words, this is a radio that's built to take the harshest work conditions your job can dish out.A radio is only as good as its power source. With the included XTN NIMH rechargeable battery, you will get up to 13 hours of continuous work between recharges, and if you find yourself running a third shift on the same radio, you can throw in two AA batteries to keep the talk flowing for another 22 hours. The Motorola XV2600 also lets you spread out. With vastly improved selectivity, sensitivity, and voice compression in the receiver, you can talk up to 250,000 square feet, or up to 20 floors in a multi-level building. (Talk range may vary depending on terrain and conditions.) Of course, talk range is meaningless if you have continual channel chatter. With the XV2600 you have 27 business-exclusive VHF frequencies along with 121 private line codes, including 83 digital private line codes (DPL). So not only are you more likely to find a clear channel with no interference, you also get a high degree of compatibility with your existing fleets of radios.Speaking of compatibility, this radio can operate seamlessly with all Motorola Spirit professional two-way radios, including all radios in the Spirit M-Series, the Spirit GT, the Spirit HP, the Spirit Pacer, and the Spirit S-Series. So you can add XTN Series radios as you go, or anytime you need to replace radios or purchase additional radios for your fleet. And speaking of fleets, the XV2600 is designed for split-second cloning using the multi-unit charger. This allows you to quickly add radios to an existing fleet, or pick up and move the whole fleet to a new location and set it up in a hurry with all the appropriate channel and code settings. So if you're in a business that necessitates close communication with your staff, the Motorola XV2600 is designed to do the job safely, efficiently, and economically. What's in the Box One XV2600 two-way radio, drop-in radio and battery charger, rechargeable NiMH battery, radio carry holster, AC adapter, and user's guide.

Bought this to replace a very old Humminbird handheld. Like to leave a handheld with my wife when I am fishing in Canada and she stays back at the cabin. Bought the radio that uses 6 AA batteries. Purchased some good rechargable AA's and they last a very long time. When they go bad I can just buy new AA rechargables. Very happy with radio's performance.

Wifi Internet Radio Review

Wifi Internet Radio
Average Reviews:

I purchased this radio over 1 month ago and absolutely love it. I wanted a radio for the kitchen -- something that had a remote, was EASY to use with a deep, rich sound. This radio has exceeded my expectations. The richness of the sound fills my 13' x 15' kitchen. having the remote is great! I have my favorite local stations and my favorite internet stations set to the presets and it has been really easy to use. I liked the radio so much that I bought a second one for my exercise room. The web site you use to add stations to your favorites can accommodate more than one radio.
Other reviews talk about the hassle of searching for FM stations. Yes, this is tedious, but you only do it once. I set each of my favorite FM stations to a preset on the remote and haven't used the tuner to find a station since.
Wireless was easy to set up and works well.
The listing of internet radio stations available via the radio's menus is ok. I bought this radio so that my husband snd I could listen to our favorite stations from his home country. none of them were on the list; however, it was easy to add them to my favorites using the web site. I now have presets for all of them.
I am an NPR junkie.. it was easy to find podcasts of my favorite NPR shows and add them to my favorites as well.
What I wanted was to be able to walk into the kitchen and be able to listen to my favorite local and internet radio stations with the simple push of a button. This radio met all of my requirements and exceeded my expectations with great sound. I recommend this product without reservation.

Pioneer AVIC-X930BT 6.1" In-Dash Navigation AV Receiver with iPod/iPhone Control, Bluetooth, Pandora Review

Pioneer AVIC-X930BT 6.1 In-Dash Navigation AV Receiver with iPod/iPhone Control, Bluetooth, Pandora
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I installed this in a car recently, and while its easy to be impressed with with what Pioneer has done in terms of interface, and look, the things they left out and what they want to charge extra for leave you scratching your head.
First of all, the screen is tremendous. It looks beautiful, it has nice touches, even to the point that when you turn your lights on, not only does the map turn dark, it puts stars in the sky of the map in 3-D view. As someone else previously mentioned, the iPod interface is superior. Just spectacular in terms of presentation, and ability to choose songs, artists, playlists, etc.
The functionality of the UI is rich and deep. The core of it was clearly designed by experts. But the details of this unit really let you down. Everything beyond base functionality is an option and a costly one at that. For example, HD Radio is an almost $100 dollar option. iPod? Yep, they deliberately crippled the unit so you need to pay $50 for a special cable (maddeningly, the iPod can be controlled with a generic ipod Cable, but no sound comes out unless you spring for the cable). Traffic information? Yep, you guessed it, another expensive option. This is not an inexpensive unit, most of this should be built in for the price.
The Bluetooth pairing process is the most unintuitive I've seen in any piece of electronics. But my biggest complaint is that for some reason, if you are moving, much of the options, including the ability to input a new destination disappear. I've heard of some older Ford and GM doing this, but every factory navigation unit made within the past 5 years doesn't limit this functionality (and yes, I've heard there are bypasses, but why should you have to bypass to get to functionality that is available in the stock head unit?).
The navigation is well designed for these types of head units. It gives you a fair amount of options, lets you import & edit POI's. It's not feature rich, but what it does have is good, solid fundamentals, and its directions in general are no worse than a Garmin's or other stand-along GPS.
The ECO system is gimmicky. If you like it, great, otherwise, you'll never really use it. The anti-theft feature is that 3 buttons on the lower left come off. I don't think it has any special circuitry and it appears likely the buttons can get lost. They do give you a screw to attach it more-or-less permanently.
My pro/con list:
PROS:
1) Beautiful screen
2) Well thought-out interface
3) Intuitive iPod controls
4) Bluetooth audio built-in
5) Good sound
6) Customizable
CONS:
1) Nav system that makes you pull over to add a new destination. Even if you have a passenger in the car.
2) Much of the options should be built in
3) I have to buy a special iPod cable?
4) Time zone must be set manually. This is so ridiculous that I called Pioneer to verify
5) The anti-theft feature seems silly. I don't think it will prevent any thefts
6) Frustrating BT pairing process

Yamaha TSX-130BL Desktop Audio System (Single, Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This Yamaha unit is pricey, but well worth it for us. It has outstanding sound that greatly exceeded expectations. The alarm functions are great and have several options to choose from. The alarm is also easy to use, which is a relief after some complex systems we have tried in the past (and considering all its options and functions)...we found it extremely easy to use for set up and to snooze/cancel each morning. My iPod Classic works great with the unit and keeps charging too. Unsure about whether newer iPod Touch gen2+ or iPhones will get a charge, but there are lots of adapters included to choose from.
My only minor complaint is the remote could be glow in the dark or lit a bit. The remote is easy to use and useful in a lit room, but when the lights go out, I have to turn a light on if I want to use the remote (unless I just keep my finger on a button).
I recommend this unit without reservation. Even the wood finish on top looks good.

Not your high-school clock radio.
This tabletop "clock radio" is a must-have for NPR junkies with small apartments! I listen to the radio all the time, and my stereo has good speakers but I can only set up two sets, which covers half the 600-square-foot apartment. I like to have NPR available in all rooms, so I typically use a clock radio as my alarm clock. After years of using a crappy-sounding old-school clock radio, I couldn't resist splurging on the Cue Aucoustics model r1 radio ("the Cue Radio"). It's a gorgeous, sleek little thing with whopping sound. It's small enough to fit on my tiny nightstand and looks nice enough to even be in the living room. I find myself listening to it even when I'm in other rooms, actually, because the sound is good enough and loud enough that if I'm in the middle of something I forget to switch to my real stereo. I used to hate the red glaring numbers showing the time on my old radio; the Cue has a soothing blue display that you can set to dim at night (one of my favorite features). The reception is better than any other radio I've used--I can get a bunch of stations I've never received well, and the signal status bar that comes up automatically while you're tuning is a nice confirmation of how well the station is
coming in. Setup is easy (the instruction booklet looks nice and was laid out such that I actually read it)--I could give this to my parents, for instance, and they would be able to readily suss out all the features. Best yet, it doubles as an iPod dock and also can be used as a receiver for my other mp3 players or my Pandora playlists
(the Cue speakers are way better than my laptop's), and its small size makes it easy to flip around, plug in an auxiliary cable, and enjoy the great sound--which you can control with the tiny remote that comes with it. Maybe future models could have wireless capability--but I'm pretty happy that's all I am left wanting with this snazzy little clock radio!

Bodyclock Elite 300 Review

Bodyclock Elite 300

I had an old BioBrite analog light alarm clock for 15+ years, which got damaged. So I knew I loved having one, & was willing to pay the price for the Lumie Bodyclock. This replacement is definitely an upgrade. It is a 5-star light. The price is steep, and I have had one minor issue, which is why I only give it 4 stars. It is easy to use and feature rich, and I would definitely buy it again.
Some details of this light that are not necessarily obvious, but that I would have liked to know before purchasing:
- Display. Very bright when alarm is off. When alarm is on, you have a choice of either a dim display or for the display to turn off entirely. If you have it turn off, you can press most any button to see the dim display for 12 seconds.
- Very easy to set & change the alarm time. You can either set one time for every day, or set individual times for each day. If you set individual times, if you then set the overall time it switches to that. This is useful for a vacation week. I still set the alarm in order to dim the display, but have it set to later than I wake up. After vacation, set a day (any day) & it will switch back to the individual settings.
- Sound spa feature. You need to turn on the sound and then turn on the alarm. This will keep the volume you set all night. When the light starts brightening in the morning, the sleep sound turns off. When the light reaches full intensity, whatever you selected for the alarm will sound. (If you use the 'sunset' feature, you can start the sound in advance to maintain a constant volume. Or you can use their 'auto-fade' to a low volume or off, your choice.)
- Audio options include radio, pre-recorded sounds, SD card, or external audio. I haven't tried the SD or external options. The included sounds include rain, white noise, waves, birds, and an interesting 'city noise' option. They also have, in multiple languages, a guided sleep meditation with a couple music choices. The woman (with a slight British accent) can also tell you to get up in the morning. In the 'wake up assertive' option, the very pleasant voice says 'get up now'. It's rather cute. I like the rain one for a soudspa, and the birds as the alarm. I have not tried the meditations.
I have had one minor issue. One night, with the display off option, I pressed a button so I could see the time. The display was scrambled. In the morning, I unplugged and replugged the unit, and it fixed itself. I have had the Bodyclock for about a month, so I hope that was just a fluke. It did keep all my settings through being unplugged.
Update January 2011: The unit is working well. After around 4 months, that odd display problem I mentioned above has not repeated itself. I'm still loving the light, & feel it is worth the (admittedly expensive) price.
