Onkyo TX-8555 Stereo Receiver Review

Onkyo TX-8555 Stereo Receiver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this amplifier recently. I own a few older, well-regarded amplifiers (tube and solid state) that cost a lot more money when new, so my expectations were not high for this Onkyo. That said, I am stunned by how nice this amplifier sounds. I run the amplifier in Pure Audio mode (press the Pure Audio button on the front panel twice, then the blue LED comes on indicating Pure Audio mode). If I didn't know better, I'd swear this was a high-end tube amplifier. There is absolutely no background noise. No hiss. No hum. Nothing but dead silence. It makes music with silent passages jump to life. Whether I use this amplifier to drive Paradigm Titan speakers or Grado headphones, the quality of the sound reproduction and the dynamic range is absolutely remarkable, especially bass reproduction. Using a quality CD audio source, I can clearly hear every cymbal, with all the timber, every bass note, with all the string vibration from every finger pluck. For what this amplifier costs, I can't imagine looking elsewhere unless you need to drive large reference monitors. This amplifier is more than capable of driving anything up to full-sized floor speakers at reasonable volume. The amplifier includes an AM/FM tuner that works well enough. FM channels come in loud and clear using the included wire antenna. AM reception is a bit more difficult using the included loop antenna and its short wires, so at a minimum expect to add four to eight feet of wire to the AM antenna to get the loop well clear of any power cords. But that's really of little consequence if what you're looking for first and foremost is a high-quality stereo amplifier. I've listened to high-end amplifiers costing many times as much and few sound this pure and clean. The overall look and feel of the unit is professional grade, with just the right amount of heft. All controls have positive feedback and none feel flimsy. The volume knob is particularly nice, with a heavy, smooth action that is slow to respond, resulting in very fine, analog-like volume control. In brief summary, I doubt anyone with reasonable expectations will be disappointed. This stereo amplifier provides performance and quality well beyond its price level.

I have had this playing since it arrived!
The sound is wonderful...actually I have a long history with Grundig(Germany)and I would rate Crosley as equal in quality...
The door to the controls is a bit technically uncomfortable for me...I keep thinking that the latch will break and then what will I do? I do not want anything to happen to this radio! The CD player function is very good! The lights and the bubbles are simply great fun!
Arrived intact...very well packaged!
I would highly recommend this product...I would order Crosley again!

Celebrate the King's legacy with Crosley's EP18 Elvis Presley Baby Bubbler jukebox. Equipped with a front-loading CD player, FM radio, and a pair of stereo speakers, the tabletop jukebox is a must for fans of the Memphis native who revolutionized the rock 'n' roll landscape. Appearance-wise, the limited-edition jukebox--which is a reproduction of an authentic 1946 Wurlitzer 1015--features percolating bubble tubes complete with enough neon to light a room. Also present are chrome highlights along the sides and a decorative song chart that brings to mind ice cream parlors, diners, and other places where jukeboxes held sway over a generation of teens.
Fortunately for listeners, the electronics are modern even if the design isn't. The CD player, for instance, boasts a 20-track programmable memory, letting users create a custom soundtrack for parties or casual listening. The FM radio, meanwhile, is bolstered by an electronically assisted tuner that helps locate the precise frequency every time. Add in the dynamic full-range stereo speakers and a full-function remote control and you're ready to rock. Additional features include a bright LED display, an FM antenna, and outputs for connecting external speakers for a more robust sound.
So relive the mass hysteria of the Elvis era with the EP18 Baby Bubbler jukebox, which measures a compact 12 by 18 by 9.5 inches (W x H x D). It's also backed by a 90-day warranty on parts and labor.

Kenwood KDC-BT948HD In-Dash Head Unit Car Stereo Review

Kenwood KDC-BT948HD In-Dash Head Unit Car Stereo
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I really like this deck. Since I installed it in place of my stock deck, I'm super happy. My car music life has changed. I still have stock speakers but even those sound better. I'll be putting in a full system later and will update maybe but I doubt it. I have a 2003 Malibu and it fit fine in spite of what other websites told me.
The first thing I was almost disappointed in was the USB. I had looked at this thing in the store twenty times and never realized the USB was out of the back of the unit via a cable. No big deal though and in fact I decided I like not having the USB sticking out of the front. I haven't hooked up anything larger than a 1GB stick yet but it works fine and accesses quickly. Wouldn't mind testing with something over 32GB.
The second thing that I may actually be almost disappointed in (does that make sense?) is the microphone for the phone. It's a wire as well that they recommend you attach to your steering column or something. I forgot to attach it when I installed the deck and am too lazy to get that set up right now. So that means no testing of Bluetooth phone thing. My phone is dumb anyways.
All the other stuff is great. I usually have to set my fade a little to the back. With this deck I just told it what kind of car and speakers I have and it did all that. Everything sounds great. Setting the colors of the deck is fun and distracting. You can customize about everything on the display which I liked. HD radio sounds good and you can keep it from doing that transition thing between non-HD/HD. At least I think I can, maybe I just have great reception. Remote is nice which makes using the deck to control almost unnecessary. You need the deck to set stations and to turn it off but that's about it I think.

Creative ZEN X-Fi2 MP3 Player 64GB (Black) Review

Creative ZEN X-Fi2 MP3 Player 64GB (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I thought Creative finally came out from behind Apple when they created a current player with more than 32GB of memory. I used to own both Creative Zen Vision M and V lines. Due to some abuse overseas they both had to be replaced. Unfortunately Creative no longer sold any players with more than 32GB of memory because they were flash based. I waited a couple of years for them to get off their butts to create something bigger. I even switched to Archos who make a great player but it kept crashing. Straight out of the box you would think this is a great product. That is until you actually put all your music on it. I have almost 40GB of music so one would think that this player is perfect for me. WRONG! Not only does it take way longer than the Creative Zen to send one individual song (almost twice as slow which is weird considering this thing is supposed to act like a removable drive), the library rebuild takes at least 15-20 minutes. The playlist function is HORRIBLE. With the my Creative Zen 32gb I can click on a playlist and play immediately. With this player it appears to be scanning each song EVERYTIME I load the playlist. If you have more than 50 songs in a playlist this can be extremely annoying, especially if you are on the go or driving! Now comes the wonderful part. I load a playlist finally but for some reason quite a few tracks are missing. After a few days of emailing back and forth with the brain dead tech support, submitting and RMA and finally receiving my player back I notice that it will only read 8000 songs. I looked up the limitation and supposedly that only applied to the 32GB version. The latest firmware upgrade (which I've applied) was supposed to add support for the 64GB version but apparently does not. I emailed, the clearly unknowledgeable, tech support who directed me to a process to cleanup the player. I've already done that before with no success. Finally today I get an email back saying that the player is limited to 8000 songs. Any idiot would clearly understand that 8000 songs is only a fixed number if all of your tracks are 4 minutes long, on average, and encoded at 256kb (info which is NOT on the US page but somehow the tech support personnel found it on the Singapore page). If this is not resolved in a firmware upgrade or something I do plan to get a refund on this item. I'm horribly dissapointed!

Pair of BLACK Headrest 7" LCD Car Monitors with Region Free DVD player USB SD Inc. Wireless Headhones and 32 Bit Games Review

Pair of BLACK Headrest 7 LCD Car Monitors with Region Free DVD player USB SD Inc. Wireless Headhones and 32 Bit Games

I purchased this through Amazon, but the sub-supplier handled complaints and return of the product. I am glad that I had Amazon backing up this purchase.
After reading several other reviews on this product, I was prepared for some of the issues. The biggest issue is the Chinese to English translation in the operations manual (not the installation). You need to sit down with a cup of coffee and read these directions first with the product in front of you. There is a Chinese website that is more useful than the instruction manual, or the supplier. If you have a 12 VDC power supply, it is worth it to sit down and figure out all the controls and make sure everything functions before you install these.
The adapter rods are of course too small in diameter for today's American Made vehicles. So I twice wrapped them top to bottom with black electrical tape. That seemed to make them snug enough to fit.
Hooking up the wiring was relatively easy. My problem came after I had installed them and after playing for 5 minutes, one of the LCD screens went totally blank. The supplier company required me to package everything back up and Fedex picked them up the next day. One week later, my returned package arrived at their business in New York. After a few phone calls, they then shipped a new set which arrived in three days. I tested the new headsets for an hour before installing them. I didn't want to have that problem again.
The game CD have nothing on them. they are blank. So I guess you have to go to their website, download the games compresed to your computer, open the games, then transfer them to the CD.
Make sure your headsets work. If you have 2 kids in the car and they are watching different DVDs, the sound is maddening. Remember the speakers are right behind your head times 2.
So far I am pleased with the equipment. I had three previous vehicles that came from the factory with entertainment systems and we liked them all. But with my latest car purchase, I didn't want to spend $1200 more for factory installed DVD systems, so I thought this was a good investment. If in the future these DVD players break, I can just re-install original headrest. At least for now the grandkids are occupied on long trips.
I rated this a '3' because the operating instructions are difficult to understand, and that I had to wait two more weeks for a good set to arrive. The supplier did handle the problem without question..they just wanted to confirm there was something wrong with them.

Clarion NX500 6.5" In-Dash Motorized Touchscreen DVD/CD/MP3/USB Receiver, Built-in Navigation and Bluetooth Review

Clarion NX500 6.5 In-Dash Motorized Touchscreen DVD/CD/MP3/USB Receiver, Built-in Navigation and Bluetooth
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Since the 1st reviewer really captured a lot of my feelings on this unit, I'll try to concentrate on or add some additional thoughts...
When researching the higher end offerings from Kenwood and Pioneer, I finally decided on Clarion's NX500 after I saw all of the features that were included for a price tag that was *at least* half the cost of anything comparable. For reference, I picked mine up for $579 from another online retailer.
Installation was a breeze in my Mercedes Benz ML320 using a Metra harness. I was especially pleased with the modular wiring setup in the back of the headunit. As the other reviewer mentioned, you only plug in the connections you plan to use. This all means less clutter and mess behind the dash. At the time of installation, I also installed the Sirius Direct Connect adapter and a rear view camera. Connections were very straightforward.
The navi system seems to be a hybrid between a Garmin and Honda/Acura unit. You have the ability to view the mapping aerially, or slightly angled (quasi 1st person). The system is adequate for getting you to your destination, although I would've liked to have seen an option that lists turn-by-turn directions on the right side of the split screen for better clarification similar to the software found in my Acura TSX. Guidance voice options include 2 sets of male and female voices. One set utilizes text to speech (TTS) and phonetically pronounces street names and highways. These voices are robotic sounding, and will literally pronounce names as they are spelled. For example, U.S. Highway 9 would sound like "us nine" vs "u-s nine". The other set of more human sounding voices merely give generic turn by turn directions such as "Turn left at next intersection" vs "Turn left at Broadway". A neat feature of the split screen option is that the time and distance to the next turn/checkpoint is displayed on the left side while the total remaining distance and estimated time of arrival are displayed on the right side. I did not have any issues w/ the unit keeping extremely accurate time as the other reviewer. I believe setting the time to sync via the GPS will solve his problem. The POI database in the nav software was fairly extensive and very helpful when in an unfamiliar area looking for a place to eat, a place to get gas, etc. Entering addresses to get routing guidance was fairly easy; however, destinations on main streets sometimes became sources of frustration. When trying to enter an address on Rt 46, I finally realized that the road was also known as "Main St". Having a HD based system allows quick re-routing when you deviate from the directions. While my Acura TSX and MDX would take a few seconds to "recalculate" a new route, the NX500 does it almost instantaneously. Nav reception via the GPS antenna is very strong. I mounted mine under the dash, and have had no issues whatsoever with getting located as soon as I turn on the vehicle. The reception is so strong that viewing the speedometer screen yielded identical results to the actual speedometer in my instrument cluster.
Sound quality was very good considering I am not running an aftermarket amp. If you're an audiophile, the limited EQ adjustments will feel limiting. For the average person, there are "preset" EQ settings for various types of audio such as "Rock", "Urban", or "Techno".
Sirius radio reception sounded CD clear in my vehicle. I did not get any hissing or "white" noise on any channel like the other reviewer did, nor has my sat radio ever locked up.
I also purchased a bypass module on e bay. Unlike Pioneers and other aftermarket headunits, you cannot simply ground the parking brake wire to the chassis. It requires a pulsing signal to mimick the release and re-engagement of the parking brake in order to operate any stereo function that includes video. I do not condone, nor recommend watching any video while operating the vehicle. For my purposes, I wanted the ability to adjust my nav destination w/o pulling the car over.
Ipod integration is ok --- all pertinent menus/data are available such as playlists, artists, songs, albums, etc. Unfortunately, however, you do not have the ability to quickly scroll through entries. I have over 5,000 songs on my 5G 30GB Video. Trying to select an artist beginning with a 'G' requires the continuous pressing of the down arrow. You cannot hold the button to accelerate the process.
The DVD function works well. The picture is very good, although it seems a tad washed out. Of course, this is a minor point as I rarely watch movies in the vehicle. Playing a CD is standard fare, but I was VERY disappointed in what appears to be a poor oversight in basic design. I used to be a vinyl DJ, and have a large collection of "continuous" mix CDs that I have not yet been able to transfer to my iPod. When playing a mix, the player will insert a 2-3 second gap between tracks, regardless if the CD was recorded without them. This can get rather annoying during a DJ set or live band performance.
The built-in bluetooth system makes this unit such a big upgrade over its predecessor because an additional, external modular add-on is not required (less mess behind the dash). Calls come in loud and clear through the vehicle's speakers, and a mic is built directly into the face of the stereo. I also installed the supplementary external mic in the vehicle to give me the option of choosing which mic to use, but callers on the other end have not reported any problem hearing me clearly when using the built-in mic. Music/video will pause and mute when a call is placed or received. My Verizon Blackberry Storm can synch its address book and call log w/o an issue. You can switch off to your handset in a snap with a dedicated button on the bluetooth screen interface. The other GREAT feature of the built-in bluetooth system is the ability to listen to Bluetooth audio. I frequently run Pandora and Slacker in the vehicle now from my Blackberry. I have so many "entertainment" options now, it truly is ridiculous. One gripe about this feature is that you can't view the nav screen at the same time.
As the other reviewer touched on, the biggest problem with this unit has to do with its visibility in bright sunlight. Because the screen is very smooth and gloss like, it reflects a great deal of glare during the day. I will try to remedy this with an anti-glare film and update at a later time. With all that said, after a month and a half of solid use, I would purchase this unit again in a heartbeat. I almost feel like I stole it, and cannot say enough about what a great value it really is. While it is not a supreme standout in any one area, it does everything fairly well. If you are looking for a good "quiver killer", I would highly recommend it.
Pros (to echo some of the 1st reviewer's sentiments):
1 - Ease of installation w/ no mess.
2 - Fast navigation due to HD based software; STRONG GPS reception.
3 - Clean sound, even w/o an amp.
4 - Easy addition of additional AV sources.
5 - POI database is robust.
6 - Built in bluetooth, especially the ability to stream BT audio (Pandora and Slacker in the car!!!)
7 - Tangible, physical buttons for volume control and source selectionCons (more nitpicking than anything else):
1 - Excessive glare in bright sunlight... hopefully this will be remedied w/ a simple anti-glare film.
2 - Can't use voicedial feature for making calls.
3 - Entering addresses could be a little cumbersome if you don't know the alternative names.
4 - No quick scroll feature for navigating through the iPod.
5 - Mix CDs don't play continuously.
6 - Can't view the nav screen when playing BT audio.
I hope this helps others who are trying to decide on a new DD unit for their vehicle. Thanks to the 1st reviewer for helping me make my own decision.

Nokia 5530 XpressMusic Unlocked Phone with Touchscreen--U.S. Version with Warranty (Black) Review

Nokia 5530 XpressMusic Unlocked Phone with Touchscreen--U.S. Version with Warranty (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am a late adapter when it comes to cell phones. So refrained from Iphones and vu/touch phones as one was mostly tied to a provider data plan or had to pay a premium for the phone itself.
If you dont care about 3g (read data plan 29.99 a month) or GPS there cannot be a better phone at this price range. Solidly built, some reviews complained about back cover. I do see an issue there as it get on the phone with little notches on all sides. But how may times you open that. Specially when SIM/SDHC is accessible from outside. The only time you need to open the back cover is when you install a battery.
What I love about this phone in order of preference.Form Factor (It looks like a phone and not a PDA)
Not tied to a provider or unlocked so you dont have to be geeky searching for unlocking/jail breaking articles.
Wifi 54G (email is good on the run)
Quad Band GSM World Phone
Media/Music playback is excellent.
Can go upto 16GB Micro SDHC (plenty of music or videos) comes with 4Gig.
Speaker phone and in general call quality for me increasd 3-5 times. (I used Razr before).
Clear brilliant screen
Touch pad responsive enough
Picture quality @3.2MP is good in daylight and flash comes in handy for pictures in lowlight (subject @2-4 ft).
What I will look for in future revisions.
USB Charging capability
A little thinner (Not that is fat right now) but it would make it sweeter.
Total Alloy body including back cover for a more solid feel.
Maybe a more rugged look/feel (non piano black or non shiny finish for e.g Zune kind of finish or finish with more friction), I always get a feeling I am going to drop it.

Bose claims that this system, with only two speakers and a subwoofer (Acoustimass module in Bose-speak), approaches the sound of a conventional 5 speaker system. This was evident the first night we listened to it. I had not yet taken down the rear speakers of my old surround-sound system, and my step-son commented that the sound of the movie was great coming from the rear speakers. They were no longer hooked-up! It's not a perfect surround-sound experience, but for two speakers and a subwoofer it's amazingly close. And the clarity! From old movies to newly recorded music, the detail if fantastic. The Acoustimass module delivers outstanding performance. The ease of setup was inline with Apple standards -- very simple directions, and the setup CD was a bonus. It's difficult to believe that three speakers and a media center replaced 6 speakers, a DVD player, a receiver, many and lengthy wires, with the end-result being a far more satisfying experience. Oh! The universal remote actually works for all my devices! I suppose I have to list a "con", so I'll say that $1000.00 for a home theater system is pricy, and should indeed provide a lot of bang for the buck. Yet the 3-2-1 Series II delivers on these expectations. I highly recommend this home theater system.

Sony LBTZUX9 Mini Hi-Fi Shelf System 1000W RMS Total Power (Silver) Review

Sony LBTZUX9 Mini Hi-Fi Shelf System 1000W RMS Total Power (Silver)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I took time to go to several stores to try different systems. With each system no matter how innovative or divers the system with the latest capabilities, the only thing that made any difference that was noticeable in the store was the number of watts to the speaker. I tried positions and that was pretty much negligible. So now my mission was to find a mini-stereo that would be a shelf system to replace my poor old 25 year old system that finally bit the dust.
I actually tried the Sony LBTZX9 Mini Hi-Fi Shelf System and found it pretty good. Then I spotted on line the Sony LBTZUX9 Mini Hi-Fi Shelf System. 1000 watts meant 250 watts per-speaker. I do not want rock sounds that will breing every fire engine for the surrounding neighborhood. I did not want a system that you have to ware sunscreen to listen to Prokofiev on a cool evening while reading. So I took a chance and ordered this monster. I was aware that it came in a shipping box that would require a team to deliver; how ever I thought it was just well packed. Expecting a mini-stereo, a shelf system I did not expect just one speaker to be larger than the whole of my older stereo system. Naturally I realize that this animal was never going to fit on a shelf (book shelf) as it has twice the depth and would tip out. The tape-to-tape system opens up on the top instead of the front which again makes it impossible to place on a book self. I am also starting to question the term "Mini".
I was able to retrieve Cargo cases from another room to replace the book shelves. It took five of these animals (one for the stereo and one each for the huge speakers.) there are two remotes because there is not enough room on one remote to hold all the buttons. The speakers were simple to setup. Everything works fine out of the box. However this system may be tad overkill. But the purpose is not for great volumes as great ranges to hear the subtle sounds that you can only get in a concert hall. Many of the time I have to pick the "flat" option to keep the boom box effect to overwhelm the music.
Well with its new home and a little adjustment this is the system to take me into the next couple of decades before the technology will make it obsolete.

Onkyo TX-SR308 5.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver (Black) Review

Onkyo TX-SR308 5.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is what Onkyo does best. This thing offers great performance. It is rock solid, no nonsense, just what you need and not much else. What it does, it does very well: decode most everything, and HDMI 1.4!!!
I was surprised how similar this unit was to my old 2006 model Onkyo 5.1 reciever. This model is clearly a new generation of the same line, with many features and design choices being identical. What sets this unit apart from those of yesterday is the connectivity. 3 HDMI 1.4 inputs, full 3D compatibility for down the road, two optical inputs, composite inputs, and more.
What is not so hot are the "frills". I say "frills" because they are not so frilly. The alternate listening modes are mostly useless- just like they were 5 years ago. The on unit display looks very, very dated, and the remote is even worse than before. In fact, the display and listening modes are identical to my old unit. After setup, dont expect to be pressing more than about 4 buttons on the full-sized remote unless you have other Onkyo components- this remote is NOT universal. This unit does support some "control via HDMI" functionality, so depending on your TV you may be able to sync them to some degree and use one remote for most casual functions on both devices. It also does not upconvert lesser video inputs to HDMI, which is nice to have, but nobody really does that very well until you get into the much higher price points anyway.
But who really buys one of these for a remote and boring sound effects? Not me. I bought this for one reason only: Onkyo quality sound. And this unit does not disappoint. Aside from just sounding great, the functional aspects of this unit are absolutely rock solid and do exactly what you would expect from Onkyo. For the money, I dont know how you could beat this unit. You get Onkyo's top notch, no nonsense audio performance and everything that comes along with HDMI 1.4. Auto a/v sync is here as is deep color if your TV and other components support them. You will be ready if 3D really takes off, or if the reasonably priced HDTV's keep getting much better within the next 3-5 years. This budget unit can grow with your home theater as the industry evolves over the next few years, and keep sounding great the whole time- which is big plus considering where we are in the technology cycle. Onkyo really got it right this year with this model at this price point.
I fully recommend this unit to anyone looking for solid 5.1 surround at this price point that they dont want to throw away in 2 years.

Yamaha YSP-3000BL Digital Sound Projector (Black) Review

Yamaha YSP-3000BL Digital Sound Projector (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
When I first heard about the Digital Sound Projector from Yamaha I thought it would be a prefect solution for my family room where I do not (or cannot) run the cables to hook up rear (L/R) speakers. I pre-ordered YSP-3000 from Amazon in September 2007.
I have the YSP-3000 hooked up in my family room for more than a week now, here is the list of good and bad about the device:
The good:
-Excellent sound quality with Dolby Digital 5.1 supported sources such as my digital cable box (via HDMI interface/cable).
-Setup is easy. You ran Intelibeam from the device; in less than 20 mins you got a customized sound projecting environment. You can always tweak the settings manually but I found the auto-setting works just fine.
-YSP-3000 also functions as HDMI switch (1 output, 2 inputs) where you can switch audio/video between DVD player and cable TV without selecting input source from your TV set. That is, connect the output HDMI port off YSP-3000 to your TV, then connect your cable box and DVD players to YSP-3000. You only need to use the YSP-3000 remote to choose between DVD and cable box.
The bad:
Here is my biggest problem with YSP-3000. It does NOT support newer version of Dolby Digital TrueHD, nor Dolby Digital Plus off the box!!
I hooked up a Toshiba HD DVD player (model# HD-A30), and guess what, my audio channel on YSP-3000 became 2-channel stereo instead of 5.1. To by pass this problem, I had to hook-up my DVD player using optical audio connection as oppose to HDMI, and change the video output from HDMI to component video output. By doing so, I no longer can switch between DVD and cable using YSP-3000, and (in theory) receiving less quality image because I cannot use HDMI for my DVD.
I contacted Yamaha support, I was told that YSP-3000 does not indeed support Dolby Digital TrueHD nor Dobly Digital Plus, which have became the standard audio format for every HD DVD movie shipped out there. My Toshiba HD DVD player only offers three choices of audio output 1) AUTO (which is the one I am using, and it is recommend for digital sound), 2) PCM (which is 2-chanael, not 5.1 with surround sound, and 3) Downmix PCM, which is also 2-channel instead of 5.1.
So I have the latest Digital Sound Projector (YSP-3000), with latest HD DVD player (Toshiba HD-A30), with latest HD-DVD movies yet I cannot enjoy 5.1 sound environment without downgrading my video output from HDMI to component. That's a shame. I hope there will be a firmware upgrade in the future with either Yamaha or Toshiba devices (by the way, I already updated the firmware on Toshiba HD DVD player to v1.1, which is the latest as to date) to provide support of DD+, or DD TrueHD.

The New YSP-3000 offers great new features such as 1080p-compatiable HDMI, iPod compatibility and wide variety of beam settings including My Surround for true multi-channel surround sound enjoyment from a single component. The YSP-3000 applies the Digital Sound Projector technology to precisely control the orientation of the sound by focusing it through multiple beams. The center channel sound is heard directly, while sounds from other channels are heard after reflecting off walls. The result is true multi-channel surround sound that sounds just like a multi-speaker system but without the need for extra speakers! As amazing as it seems, the YSP-3000 can actually deliver multi-channel sound that surrounds listeners the same way that sound from front, center and rear speakers does. DVD movies and other digital sources sound just the way they are supposed to. Dolby Pro Logic II is included, so even 2-channel TV's sound can be heard in true multi-channel surround. Its elegant space-saving design avoids the need of numerous speakers and cables. It can be wall mounted or placed on a shelf or rack. . It powers the 21 beam drivers at 2W each and the two woofers at 20W each, for a total of 82W of power. There is no need for the customer to purchase an additional amplifier or receiver, so the system is compact and economical.

I bought this phone and returned it a week later. I have AT&T service and was un-able to get picture messages. I called Sony, AT&T and no one was able to help me. The features of the phone is great, but too compact for me. Texting was too time consuming, and placing a call was not that easy as well. I like the look and what it offered but it needs to be in a much larger body. Pictures were great, moving through the phone was fast, but just was un-happy that I paid so much for the phone and could not get picture messages, nor use the video calling feature. How funny, now AT&T carries this phone, I would have been able to use all the features now.

This unit is everything it promised to be and more. The combination of high quality hardware, easy installation and simple user interface makes living with this unit a treat.
Audio quality is second to non. The screen is excellent with the best resistance to fingerprints and smears of any touch screen I've ever seen.
TomTom unit upgradable - but takes hours for the 2Gb download and separate write.
Maps are very accurate.

I received mine in the end of December. A month is probably not enough to discover all bugs but so far I'm happy with the phone.
First of all, it is really fast. The 1GHz processor does it's job.
The screen resolution is high and the screen size is big enough to surf the web with comfort.
HTC shell is something new to me (I used to have E-ten with Spb Mobile shell) but getting used to it.
Cannot say that I'm impressed with the still picture quality (SE phones have better pictures with less Mpx) but video recording is relatively good. There is no button for shutter so you always have to click on the screen to take picture - not convenient.
I need to charge my phone every second day - that definitely exceeded my expectations, taking into consideration fast processor and big hi-res screen.
The screen uses almost full width of the body, which sometimes causes unexpected clicks when I grab the phone (slowly getting used to it). When browsing e-mails the shell has button "reply to all" on the left side and when you click it, it changes to "send". One time I grabbed the phone and it replied to all and sent an empty message to a huge distribution list. So keep it in mind and be careful ;) I hope there will be a way to protect it somehow.
The phone is bigger than I expected - it's exactly the size of 12oz beer can (you can hide one behind the phone).
The sound level and quality in conversations is excellent. Also, my Highlander hands-free connects very quickly with good sound level.
So far I did not have chance to use built-in GPS. I don't expect anything special comparing to other similar phones.
It does not have a stylus. If you turn the phone, full size keyboard is big enough but.. I think I will get a stylus. At least you need one, when you surf Internet.
Overall - some little flaws, which I found so far, will not be enough to downgrade my 5 star rating. I really enjoy the phone and recommend it to others who is ready to spend [...] bucks on a gadget.

Uniden BCD396T TrunkTracker IV APCO Digital Handheld Scanner with 6000 Dynamic Channels Review

Uniden BCD396T TrunkTracker IV APCO Digital Handheld Scanner with 6000 Dynamic Channels

Whether you buy this as a toy or a tool, this is not a device that is going to spring out of its box ready to use. I consider myself fairly experienced in electronics and radio-related stuff and it took me several obsessive evenings of tinkering with the settings, reading and re-reading the manual, and searching through a half dozen online forums and reference sites dedicated to just this scanner model to get things set up properly.
Most folks who own this scanner are happy to share the files they have created of their own metropolitan areas (I found and downloaded complete Baltimore County files in a few minutes after subscribing BCD396T Yahoo Group) and with the included data cable every feature of the scanner can be controlled and modified from the computer screen.
Now that the unit is completely set up, it works exactly the way I want it to. This is a great portable scanner if you have digital trunking systems in your area, or anticipate your local systems going digital in the next few years. The back-light works great and lights up the buttons along with the display, which makes the scanner as easy to use in the dark as in full daylight.
The included antenna is a wide-band scanner antenna, so expect to have to purchase a band-specific antenna for the unit if you're mostly concerned with listening to 700 or 800 MHz trunking bands in your area and want the best possible performance on those bands.
If you have no digital systems in your area, you may want to check out some of the less expensive alternatives without digital capability such as the UNIDEN BC-246T Compact Hand Held Scanner.
